One of my favorite animators Yoshinori Kanada died recently of a heart attack. He was only 57 years old. He was the creator of the "Kanada Style" of animation. He was the first animator in japan to introduce extreme perspective and that over the top dynamic style of movement. The mark that he left on the world of Japanese animations is felt everyday, in not only the work that he produced but mainly by the legions of animators influence by his style. Guys like Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann) and Takeshi Koike (The Animatrix: World Record) both draw heavily from Kanada's work.

Kanada was one of the most innovative and exciting animators to ever bring life to a drawing. He will be missed.

A new season of anime is upon us, and I have to be honest there really isn't much to get to excited about. There are tons of Shōjo anime this season. Lots of high school comedies, romance and magical girl shows.

But there is hope. Two shows this season look particularly interesting to me.

and it looks like the team from Ghost in the Shell is getting back together to do a Samurai Epic about Miyamoto Musashi. But this time around Mamuro Oshii is writing the screenplay and former animation director Mizuho Nishikubo is directing.
